Quick Answer
Down jacket quotes are mainly affected by down type, fill power, fill weight, shell fabric, baffle construction, trims, testing, order quantity and packing requirements. The safest way to compare suppliers is to send the same tech pack, bill of materials, size range, color breakdown and delivery terms to each factory.
For RUINIU projects, the standard MOQ is 100 pieces per style per color. Standard bulk lead time is 35–50 days after the sample, materials and order details are confirmed.

Down Jacket Cost Factors Compared
| Cost area | What changes the quote | What buyers should specify |
|---|---|---|
| Down filling | Down type, composition, fill power, origin and fill weight | Approved filling specification and required documentation |
| Fabric | Fabric weight, downproof construction, coating, finish and color | Shell, lining and pocketing specifications |
| Construction | Stitch-through quilting, box baffles, chamber count and shaped panels | Approved drawings and workmanship requirements |
| Trims | Zippers, snaps, adjusters, labels, pulls and branding | Trim brand, finish, color and approval sample |
| Testing | Filling tests, leakage checks, colorfastness and finished-garment inspection | Test method, test responsibility and retesting requirements |
| Order plan | Quantity by style, color and size | Complete order breakdown and MOQ assumptions |
| Delivery and packing | Packaging method, carton ratio, destination and trade terms | Required delivery date, packing instructions and Incoterm |
1. Down Type, Composition and Fill Power
List down type, composition, fill power and fill weight as separate fields. A ratio such as "90/10" does not state the fill weight or the warmth target.
For how fill power is measured and why 600, 700 and 800 differ, see our fill power guide. If the project calls for a specific down type, see our goose down and duck down OEM pages.
2. Fill Weight and Size Grading
Fill weight is the insulation quantity allocated to the garment or each chamber. Ask whether the quoted amount is based on an approved sample and whether the size grading plan is included.
3. Downproof Shell and Lining Fabric
"Downproof nylon" is not a complete specification. The quote should state fabric weight, construction, finish and color, and the buyer should evaluate the fabric with the selected down and garment construction.
4. Baffle and Quilting Construction
Stitch-through and box-baffle jackets use different construction methods. Compare the chamber map, filling method and workmanship requirement instead of comparing photographs alone. Our guide to baffle construction and down filling explains how each method is built.
5. Zippers, Hoods and Branding
Two-way zippers, detachable hoods, inner cuffs, multiple pockets, custom pulls and branded labels add material and sewing operations. Ask which trim brands and finishes are included in the quote and whether color development or tooling is separate.
6. Testing, Inspection and Compliance
Typical requirements include filling composition, fill power, cleanliness, leakage, dimensional stability, colorfastness and finished-garment workmanship. Agree on the test method, sample source and responsibility for testing or retesting before production.

What the Gap Between Two Quotes Usually Looks Like
For illustration only: these are example specifications, not real quotes. Two suppliers can both write "90/10 down, 700 fill power, 100 pieces" at the top of a quote and still be pricing different jackets.
| Item | Quote A | Quote B |
|---|---|---|
| Fill weight | Approved sample weight, by size | "Standard fill", no weight stated |
| Shell fabric | Downproof nylon, weight and finish listed | "Nylon", no weight or finish |
| Construction | Box baffle, chamber map attached | Stitch-through |
| Testing | Fill-power and leakage checks included | Buyer arranges testing |
| Terms | FOB, individually packed | EXW, bulk packed |
Quote B may show the lower number, but the buyer would still need to add testing, packing and freight, and the jacket may be built to a lighter specification.
When a buyer brings two competing quotes, the first practical checks are the fill weight, shell-fabric specification and testing scope. These three fields often explain a price gap before the buyer compares the unit totals.
Recognized Test Methods Buyers May Specify
Testing should be agreed in the tech pack rather than added as an undefined line in the quote. For down products, buyers may specify a recognized fill-power method such as IDFB Testing Regulations or EN 12130. For fabric water penetration, ISO 811:2018 defines a hydrostatic pressure test, while ISO 11092:2026 defines measurement of thermal and water-vapor resistance for textile materials and assemblies.
These standards describe test methods, not one universal jacket price or warmth rating. Confirm the applicable edition, laboratory, sample source and acceptance requirement before testing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does MOQ affect the unit price of a down jacket?
Often, yes. Fabric minimums, sampling, testing and production setup costs are spread across fewer pieces in a smaller order. RUINIU's MOQ is 100 pieces per style per color, so confirm the MOQ each supplier has assumed in its quote.
What should buyers send to get an accurate down jacket quote?
Send the tech pack, bill of materials, filling specification, size range, quantity by color and size, testing requirements, packing instructions, destination market and target delivery date. See our OEM quote information checklist before sending the request.
Does higher fill power always make a jacket more expensive?
Not always, but it often adds cost. Higher fill-power down is usually priced higher per gram, although a jacket may need less fill weight to reach the same loft. The final price also depends on down type, shell fabric, baffle construction, order quantity and testing requirements, so compare fill power together with fill weight rather than on its own.
Why can the same down ratio receive different quotes?
The filling source, fill power, cleanliness, fill weight and documentation may differ. The fabric, baffle construction, trims, testing and commercial terms may also be different.
